Art, not just on your walls!

Form Function Style is proud to represent established artist Susan C. Price.  Recently accepted to the FIG Gallery, Susan is also a member of both Los Angeles Artists Association, and Women Painters West, two venerable, competitive-entry artistic groups in Southern California.  Her paintings have been included in showings at the Hale Gallery in Santa Monica, the Los Angeles Municipal Gallery, the Los Angeles Artists Association VS Show,  Laemmle Theatres in Pasadena, Santa Clarita City Hall, Women Painters West shows, and the Altadena Library.

Having studied art since 1963, including drawing, painting, and sculpture at Pitzer College, UCLA, and UCLA Extension, Susan finds inspiration from, and is influenced by her favorite artists and teachers: Picasso, Vlaminck, Cassatt, Shawn, Bonnard, Schiele, De Kooning, Nyeri,  Hertel, Elgart, Mock, Hunzakus, Joseph Blaustein, Hilary Taub, Harry Gunderson, and Carla Jerome.  Susan’s paintings incorporate bright, intense colors and bold patterns balancing light and dark, small and large areas, often inspired by human subjects or photographs.

Working with Susan’s original paintings, graphic design studio Dsgnr Graphik has created a collection of surface designs adapted from Susan’s work, and Form Function Style is excited to present the Susan C. Price surface design collection.  Click on the buttons below to explore all of Susan’s work.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Taliesin Line” from Schumacher

‘Imperial Hotel Velvet’ by Frank Lloyd Wright for Schumacher

Living in the greater Los Angeles area, we’re lucky enough to have access to a number of Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic homes, and commercial buildings.  The Hollyhock House, the Storer House, the Ennis House, the Freeman House, and the Anderton Court Shops are just a few of his achievements located here.

While we’ve seen his sketches and drawings reprinted on everything from greeting cards to ties, we had no idea he had ever created designs specifically for textiles until reading a recent article by Lauren Ro.  Designed by Wright, and executed by Ling Po, an artist, and apprentice to Wright at Taliesin West, the patterns were licensed to F. Schumacher & Company in 1955 as part of what was to be called the “Taliesin Line.”  While not all of the designs Wright and Ling Po developed were produced (see a few of them here) those that were have happily been reintroduced for purchase from Schumacher.  Not only are the original patterns available, but they have updated the colorways and fabrics.  What a treat!
